Notice period in Saudi Arabia is the time required to notify employees about ending their contract. Notice period is required for employees to notify their employer before quitting a job. This notice period is governed by the Saudi Labor contract, and according to the Saudi labor law, the notice period will depend on the type of contract.

The different notice periods in Saudi Arabia

As we mentioned before, notice period will depend on the type of contract. Types of contracts and notice periods can be divided into the following:

  • Open-ended contract. In this type of contract the hiring period is not defined, so there is a notice period of 60 days before the end of the contract. This notice period is applied when the salary is paid monthly, while if the salary is paid on another payment structure, the notice period will be 30 days for both parties.
  • Fixed contract. This type of contract has a specific expiration date and specific notice period which the two parties need to adhere to, and in case there is no specified notice period, the contract should end automatically at the agreed expiration date.
  • Contract termination without notice period. Both employer and employee can terminate the contract without a notice period in cases of serious misconduct or other reasons outlined in the Saudi labor law.

Of course as we mentioned before, the specified notice period according to each type of contract is mandatory for both parties.
